Honored to be awarded First Place for Best Environmental Story in Print by the Native American Journalists Association!

During my five years on staff as the photographer and reporter for The Southern Ute Drum newspaper, we were fortunate enough to attend the annual NAJA (Native American Journalism Association) conferences which take place each summer. A time for inspiration, networking and community at large – additionally we were able to present the best of our work for awards each year!

As an associate member, I had the honor of receiving numerous awards over the years for both my feature writing and photography. It was with great pleasure to see my name on the list during my final season with the newspaper, a small publication that was above all a team effort – a shared a passion for journalism!

Vietnam: New work from Steve Conney, travel photographer.

Travel photographer Steve Conney’s gallery of recent images from Vietnam can be seen HERE. Steve has photographed cultures and landscapes from across the globe, recently being recognized with a Best of Color and Excellence award in the Open Shutter Gallery’s annual juried competition.

I have mentored Steve over the last five years in photography, editing his images while also honing in on his own stylistic approach to photography. Covering digital workflow and Adobe Lightroom in the process! Steve’s travels have taken him to photograph bears in Alaska, gorillas in Uganda, while also immersing himself in the cultures of Croatia, Nepal and Bhutan!

Steve works hard to get off the beaten path and experience the less traveled roads when shooting abroad…the proof is in his images! – Enjoy, Jeremy
